Here’s something different.  While moving, I found a bunch of things I had squirreled away and forgotten about.  For the hell of it, here’s a draft of an academic paper I wrote in 1994–typos and margin scribbles and all, still intact–which argued for the future existence of Stephen Colbert, sort of.  Click on the thumbnails to see a larger scan of the page, or better yet, right-click on the thumbs to open them in a new tab.

Pg.1:  1.  The margin scribble reads “Challenge of identity politics is to locate its voice among”  2.  Margin reads: “Theorists like Jameson, who develop their ideas from Marxist examinations of material production,”

Pg.3:  1.  Margin scribble reads: “ideological ‘purity’ is threatened, if not discredited entirely,”  2.  This paragraph refers to the events on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1994, when students of Oakland’s Castlemont High School were taken to a screening of the film Schindler’s List,  and the controversy that arose out of some students snarking and laughing at some of the scenes in the movie.  More details of the event and its aftermath can be found here.

Week two of Comic Creators for Freedom’s donation drive continues… if you haven’t yet donated to benefit the effort against human trafficking–and to download a special edition wallpaper featuring Rose Madder and over a hundred other webcomics heroines–well, what are you waiting for?  So far this year, the CCF has outpaced last year’s effort, with over $5000 collected in the first week.  Let’s keep up the pace, shall we?

The Comic Creators for Freedom donations drive against human trafficking has begun!

The Donations Drive will last for two weeks, from Monday January 9th – 20th. All proceeds will be split evenly between Love 146 and Gracehaven House- two organizations working on rehabilitation of victims and prevention of this crime.

No new page this week due to the holidays;  instead, here’s my contribution to this year’s National Human Trafficking Awareness Day Project.  Webcomics creators from far and wide are contributing their characters to be placed on a wallpaper promoting a donation drive benefiting organizations working against the human trafficking/sex slave trade.

Webcomics artists who are interested in contributing can still do so;  deadline for art is December 31.  Go here for the details.
